Where are our Food Safety professionals at? This one’s for you!

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) is a Premier Sport and Entertainment centre located in North America. MLSE coordinates over 1400 staff members in delivering high quality food experiences, across each of its venues.

We are lucky enough to have @Michael Byerley, (Food Safety and Occupational Health & Safety Consultant and Owner of Michael Byerley Consulting Inc.) apart of the Community, who worked closely with MLSE in reviewing their food service operations, while conducting on-site training sessions to improve their processes.

Let’s unpack the success of MLSE and learn how you can apply these best practices to your own operations...

How MLSE Uses SafetyCulture

  • Inspections: Detailed and easy-to-use inspections ensure consistent quality and safety standards across all venues.

  • Sensors: Customisable temperature alarms reduce unnecessary alerts and ensure immediate action when needed.

  • Centralised Communication: Real-time data and reports keep everyone informed and accountable, from senior managers to frontline staff.

Key Takeaways

  • Massive Reduction in Stock Loss: MLSE achieved a 96.6% decrease in stock loss by using SafetyCulture Sensors to monitor fridge temperatures and prevent spoilage.

  • Eliminated Paperwork: They eliminated cumbersome 100-page reports, streamlining communication and making data easily accessible and actionable.

  • Faster Response Times: With SafetyCulture Inspections, MLSE can respond to reviews three times faster, ensuring quick and effective action on food safety issues.

  • Improved Quality and Safety Control: Centralised communication and real-time data have enhanced accountability and transparency across their 1,400 staff members.

  • Significant ROI: By preventing fridge failures and reducing waste, MLSE saved thousands of dollars, proving the value of SafetyCulture's investment.

Food security and food safety is where our journey with SafetyCulture started.  We knew it would lead to production, quality, and, of course, safety uses too.  It did not take long for some plants to start using it for those things, and now that’s common across all of our locations. Regarding food safety, we are using it for things like pest control inspections, door checks, vulnerability assessments, culture assessments, glass inspection, etc.

Thanks for your contribution, @Corey ! I love hearing these stories and learning about where everyone is at in their SafetyCulture journey. It’s exciting to hear how you have integrated the platform into so many aspects of your operations.

I'm particularly interested in the early stages: how did your team adapt to using SafetyCulture, and what strategies helped in the transition? For those just starting their SafetyCulture journey, getting teams and organisations on board can be a common challenge, so I can image any insights would be incredibly valuable for some of our users at the start of their journey!
