I have been looking at the SC training as I also run Edapps.

The following are gaps that interlinked with the full scope of the SC family.

The addition of the training matrix (Beta) is welcome however it is very basic and IMO needs some heavy work doing to make it worthwhile and intuitive?

The main reason for this is the following.

What do we need a training matrix for?

Well there are leading indicators that should be what training do we need?
Also what training do personnel have and then need based upon the business and its activities.

Then there is records of this and the need to demonstrate that we have competent staff and a structure within the company or org that has continual improvement and progression.

So we have internal micro elearning courses.

Let us assume that these do what they say on the tin, with regards to the learning objective and giving the right information that assist a learner as required.

Let us then assume that they system is working and we can plan and schedule what must and may be completed.

Then when we look at an interactive matrix.

It should be transparent and when looking at it within the SC system it should be intuitive and very simple in its overlay and what is within so with a step or two we have an overview of courses and people and a traffic light approach to where it is at that moment.

The matrix and what is behind it should also be interactive within the system for admin in planning and verifying what is, has and needs to be done.

When on the matrix by just clicking on a persons within it for a course for example we should be able to see the certification.

Furthermore we should also be able to click on a course on the matrix axis and see certification and other information.

The way that i feel the matrix should work is simple, intuitive and a few clicks.

An org should also be able to where possible share as read only for personnel and certification as this is a supply chain collaboration and going to assets or something similar (QR code) we can simply scan a person and see what they have regarding credential and training in SC so we can view and gauge their competence.

We are being asked more and more from our supply chain partners about training, but more importantly competence.

So this is more like…

  • Skills
  • Knowledge
  • Attitude
  • Training
  • Experience

Soif in the matrix and accompanying simplified system we can very quickly share and see this then we not only have a transparent system but we can also use this when looking at accreditation's, gaps and more importantly…

making this automated at the registration process for employees and contractors so that there are provision in place before personnel start with a company or begin an activity or project.

This is just a starter for 10…

Hi John,

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide this detailed feedback on our early access version of the Training Matrix.

I am pleased to share that we are working on another version as we speak that will include a traffic light system for the gap score column, in addition to other overall refinements to the report.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Will it have a view of certificates when you choose an item in the matrix?

The more intuitive this is the better it will be.

Normal matrices are excel types and not very dynamic.

The matrix and ability to see gaps, expiring or expired is a great leading indicator and aids planning.

If SC training is more intuitive it could even show Brain Boost and gap analysis for these as part of ongoing refreshers.
