Hi all,

I wanted to kick off a discussion about whether it would be a possibility to somehow utilise an Asset’s QR code or NFC tag linked to the asset for requisitions.

As a company working in construction with a remote site-based workforce, it is hard for us to get visibility on where are assets are, and who has them.

If is were possible to utilise an asset’s QR or an NFC tag so a user and/or site can book assets out and back in again, this would be a feature that would really help us.

We have our company vans set up as ‘sites’ so we would be able to book assets out onto vans and then know which vans they were on etc.

I’m sure there are other sectors where this functionality would be useful too.  If anyone has anything to add to this idea, or you think this would benefit you too, please comment :)

Thanks :)

Hi @emmashuff,

Someone can scan a qr code → go to asset profile → edit / select a site.

But do you mean when a user scans a QR code it automatically changes something on the asset?

Could you please describe the flow so I understand what you are trying to do?

Cheers,

Duncan

Hi @Duncan Heuer

Apols, I have been on annual leave, so missed your message.  Thanks for your reply.

I’m not really trying to change the profile of the asset as such, as we are going to use the ‘Site’ field to record the asset’s ‘home’ location. What I am trying to achieve is as follows:

If an operative wants to requisition an asset, a power tool for instance, they can scan the asset’s QR/NFC and somehow assign it to themselves (user) or a vehicle/location (site).  Then when the asset is returned to stores, the operative scans again and they can book it back in, and can then be requisitioned by someone else.

I’m thinking if we were to put the QR/NFC in the asset’s home location, it will be simple for operatives to scan to book the assets in/out. Maybe the asset’s existing QR/NFC could be utilised without the need for a new/separate one for this purpose.

With a remote site-based workforce, for us as administrators, it would be great to be able to report on where our assets are/who has them at any point in time, and this would give us the traceability we are trying to achieve.  Reporting-wise it would be great to have the functionality of reporting by user/vehicle/site, and see the list assets assigned to each whenever we need to.  It would also give us visibility over who used the asset last etc.

Hope that makes sense, let me know if anything is unclear. I hope this may be of benefit to other users too, so may be considered as a feature.

Thanks a lot :)

Emma
